Move
That Bus!
Beginning early this morning, thousands
of people lined up along Yucatan Drive
in anticipation of the Silva family’s
return. Designers from Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition, aided by the Oldport
Homes team and dozens of volunteers,
rushed around inside the house to
make sure the house was absolutely
perfect. When the family got out of
the limousine and Ty Pennington and
the thousands of spectators yelled
“MOVE THAT BUS!” , Ken,
Doreen, and their oldest son Kenny
were brought to tears by the sight
of their beautiful new home.
Oldport Homes would
like to thank all the subcontractors
and volunteers who donated so much
time and energy over the past week.
They are the ones who deserve all
the credit for this truly amazing
accomplishment.
Welcome home Silva family! |

Finished!
This afternoon
Eric Johnson, president of Oldport
Homes, along with vice presidents
Jon Seibold and Jonathan Caron, handed
the keys of the Silva family’s
new home over to EMHE designers Johnny,
Eduardo, and Didi, which means that
the construction phase of the project
has been completed! Now the Extreme
Makeover:Home Edition design team
can begin decorating the house.
Landscapers worked all
last night and today, transforming
the Silva family’s yard into
something practically unrecognizable
from their old lawn. The Silvas will
definitely be shocked tomorrow afternoon
when the crowd screams “MOVE
THAT BUS!” |

Getting
Close! Saturday’s
sunny skies allowed work to recommence
outside of the Silva family’s
new home. Siding crews finished putting
up wood shingles. The eyebrow window
was raised onto the roof. This afternoon
landscapers began grading the yard to
prepare for the front walk, driveway,
and patios. |

Winter
Weather!
Welcome to Rhode Island in February!
Today’s snow and ice ground most
construction outside the Silva family’s
new home to a halt, but activity inside
continued unhindered. Most of the kitchen
cabinets have been installed and beautiful
new countertops arrived tonight. The
lights and heating system have been
turned on. PrimeCo has painted all of
the bedrooms and tile work has begun
in the upstairs bathrooms. |

Roof
Is On Earlier
this afternoon the final sheet of plywood
was nailed onto the roof of the Silva
family’s new home. Following right
behind the framers were crews of electricians,
plumbers, and HVAC installers. Insulation
has been put up on the first floor and
a crew of 58 men from Century Drywall
has begun to hang drywall. Wood shingles
are being nailed onto the sides of the
house while roofers are busy above everyone
else. |

Demo
Day
This
morning a few hundred volunteers formed
a small army and, led by the Oldport
Homes and Blount Bennett Architect team,
marched up to the Silva house, where
they were greeted by Ty Pennington and
the rest of the Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition designers. Ty and Oldport Homes
president Eric Johnson gave short speeches
to motivate the volunteers and let the
Silva family, watching via computer
in Orlando, know how excited everyone
was to build them a beautiful new home!

Move-out
Day
Last night
the Silvas left Rhode Island and are
on their way to Walt Disney World in
Orlando for their first family vacation
ever! Back in Warwick, Oldport Homes
and the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
team are hard at work preparing the
Silva’s old house for demolition
tomorrow. Professional movers are packaging
up all the family’s belongings
for safekeeping until the new home is
complete. City of Warwick building officials
are making sure that the house is ready
to be demolished and all the utilities
have been disconnected. And in a warehouse
near T.F. Green airport dozens of subcontractors
are preparing for when construction
on the new home begins tomorrow afternoon.

Knock Day This
morning Ty Pennington and the rest of
the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team,
Ed, Johnny, Didi, and Eduardo, rolled
into the state of Rhode Island for the
first time ever. The Silva family of
Warwick was awakened by Ty’s bullhorn-enhanced
cry of “GOOD MORNING SILVA FAMILY!”
After showing their old house and sharing
their story with Ty and the design team,
the Silvas met with the Oldport Extreme
team to talk about the design and construction
of their new home. |
