The Silva Family hears Ty calling
their name GOOD MORNING Silva FAMILY!
After meeting the design team the
family will meet with Eric Johnson
and the Oldport Homes staff. The
clock is ticking and the Silva Family
are sent away via limousine for
a weeks vacation to relax and dream
about their new dream home designed
by Blount Bennett Architects, Ltd
of East Providence, RI and what
special designs the Extreme Makeover
Home Edition team will come up with
for them.
Tuesday, February 19
Time to clean house! All personal
belongings are packed and stored
for the Silva Family. Oldport Homes
is making final preparations to
BUILD THIS HOME! National Grid,
Verizon, Cox Communications, and
crews from the City of Warwick prepare
for the demolition of the old house
and power and utilities for the
new house.
Wednesday, February 20
A sea of volunteers in blue T-shirts
follows Oldport Homes charge to
the EMHE challenge at 7 AM! Some
short speeches later and we're ready
for action. Under the supervision
of Jon Seibold Vice President of
Oldport Homes and his team, the
106 hour build is under way. Today
they will totally demolish the home
and haul it away. East Coast Construction
excavates for the new home and Oasis
will install the new foundation.
Thursday, February 21
During the early morning hours
carpenters from Customtek will go
to work setting up walls and floors.
Truckloads of framing material,
windows and other supplies from
JT’s Lumber will arrive continuously.
Heating, plumbing and electric are
roughed in by Quality Climate Control,
Frank Johnson and Wayne Electric.
By the end of the day if all goes
according to plan the roof will
be on and shingled!
Friday, February 22
Inside the house insulation is
being installed by Atlas Insulation
and sheet rock is being hung and
coated by a huge crew from Century
Drywall while outside the incredible
landscaping designed by Hali Beckman
is being installed by Daponte Landscaping.
Painting begins. Cabinets, doors,
trim & countertops are being
installed by crews from Herrick
and White, Paulo Costa and Nuzzo
Campion.
Saturday, February 23
Paint, paint and more paint by
Primeco Painting! Hardwood, tile
and carpeting are installed by Christian
Bros. and Kahain’s Flooring.
Final plumbing, heating and electric
are being installed. Volunteers
from Hinckley Yachts, New England
Boatworks, Holby Marine and students
from RISD are working diligently
on special projects in the Art Tent.
It will be a long night.
Sunday, February 24
Interior finishes are done. Landscape
is being finished. Oldport Homes
has built it! Turn over the keys
and let the design team decorate!
The cleaning crew from Terra Nova
go to work. Athletes from Brown
University and area schools assisted
by NiRoPe unload the beautiful furniture
from Cardi’s Showrooms.
Monday, February 25
The Silvia’s return to see
the miracle. The crowd shouts “MOVE
THAT BUS!!!” AND the Extreme
Makeover Home Edition bus is moved
to reveal the Silva’s brand
new home. Ty and the designers show
the Silvia’s their new home
built by Oldport Homes and a sea
of volunteers.
Tuesday, February 26
Clean up. Volunteers and crews
put back the neighborhood that for
a week was under siege. Our thanks
to the neighbors who graciously
put up with this very hectic, bright
and noisy week.
